Bismuth vanadate: A versatile heterogeneous catalyst for photocatalytic functionalization of C(sp2)–H bonds

Bismuth vanadate hydrothermally synthesized at 180 °C and then calcined (BiVO4-180) is a versatile stable heterogeneous photocatalyst for the functionalization of diverse C(sp2)–H bonds under ambient visible-light conditions, with series functionalized compounds, including tetrahydroquinoline-succinimide-fused heterocycles, tetrahydroquinolines, 3-(p-(N,N-dimethyl)ben- zyl)indoles, α-aryl α-amino acid esters, thiocyanated/vulcanized/selenated (hetero)aromatics, in good yields (79 examples, modified drugs dipeptide esters). BiVO4 photocatalysts are advantageous because they recyclable, inexpensive, air-tolerant, highly efficient, which typical characteristics required to overcome shortcomings homogeneous photocatalysts.

Synthesis of bismuth vanadate nanoplates with exposed {001} facets and enhanced visible-light photocatalytic properties.

Well-defined m-BiVO(4) nanoplates with exposed {001} facets have been synthesized by a facile hydrothermal route, without the use of any template or organic surfactant. The as-prepared m-BiVO(4) nanoplates exhibit greatly enhanced activity in the visible-light photocatalytic degradation of organic contaminants and photocatalytic oxidation of water for O(2) generation.
